Matthew 6:27
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
A Comment
What a question from Jesus! We cannot fully grasp the glory of this statement. We have not only permission but a promise from God incarnate to stop worrying about our lives. God in the flesh is telling us that worrying adds nothing to our lives. Not even an hour can be added to our lives by worrying! What freedom is declared in this gracious question! Whether you are alive an hour from now does not depend for a moment on how well you have worried about it. And if lives are not sustained by our worry, then nothing else is either. We are free to trust Him!
A Prayer
O’ Jesus, it is so sweet to trust in You. Just to take You at Your Word. Just to rest upon Your promise. Just to know that Your Word never fails. Precious Jesus, grant us grace to trust You more. In Your name, Amen.
A Blessing
Now may God be your exceeding joy,
Christ your unfailing hope,
and the Spirit your unfailing comforter,
in all your worship and work and troubles until Jesus comes. Amen.
